Doctor Visits

Since I am a little behind on these posts I am going to include the doctor visits we have had thus far.

5 days old: We were asked to schedule an appointment with our Pediatrician's office 2 days after coming home. Since this was the first time we left the house with a baby we didn't really know how long it would take us to get out of the house and on our way. So needless to say we were rushing to get to the doctor's office on time. When we were there we first had to get him weighed and his length measured. He weighed 7 pounds 8.5 ounces and was 21 inches long. The doctor then came in and talked with us. She was a little concerned about how little he had gained since he left the hospital so they scheduled us just a weight check visit on that Saturday.

1 week old: This was our weight check visit. Again Will was weighed and then measured. He weighed 7 pounds 12 ounces this time and was 20 and 1/2 inches long. (Not sure how you lose in length. But I just think measuring his length can be very tricky to get a real accurate measurement.) When Will is weighed he has to have everything taken off, even his diaper. Usually the diaper is the last thing to come off and for good reasons. When we went to take the diaper off, Will began to pee everywhere. I didn't know exactly what to do so I just put my hand over it. Billy and I had a good laugh about this. The nurse just smiled but I am sure she has seen this many times. The doctor said she was pleased that he had gained about 4 ounces in just 2 days. She was no longer concerned about his weight gain.

2 weeks old: Will came in at a whopping 8 pounds 5.2 ounces and 20 3/4 inches long. Since Billy was back to work, Mrs. Keown (Billy's mom) went with me to help carry Will's carrier since I was still a little sore from the C-section. Everything looked good with Will. I did get to meet the lactation consultant for the first time before we left.

1 month old: Will now weighed 9 pounds 5 ounces and 21 inches long. This was the first doctor's visit that I was by myself. I was a little nervous but it all worked out. There was a little mix-up with the paperwork. I was suppose to fill out paperwork online but I was under the impression that I had already filled it out but I had not filled it out. This delayed us from going back but I know what to do now. Everything seemed to be going ok with Will. He did get his second round of Hepatitis B shot. He got the first one while in the hospital but I had never seen him get a shot. He did really well. He cried for a split second and then was fine.

Our next appointment will be at 2 months old. We will get to then see how big he is getting.

So Many Visitors =)

We were so blessed to have so many people come and see us. We spent 4 days and 3 nights in the hospital and every day but the last we had several visitors. Billy's parents were able to visit every day and bring Billy lunch and dinner which was a big help.

The day that Will arrived Lydia and Billy's parents were there before I was even out of recovery. Derek Taylor and Chef, Phil and Sybill Seawell, Jay Harris and Jared Plummer, and Carter, Christy and their little bun in the oven stopped by to visit later on that day. We got to even enjoy a cookie cake from Derek. (I was on a liquid diet only that day so I had to enjoy it the next day!)
On Sunday my dad and Sonia came and stayed for that whole week with us until Saturday. After church we had a group of people stop by, Chad and Raeanne Johnson, Blake and Amanda Derrick, Dave, Trisha, and their little bun in the oven and Trisha's sister, Hunter Whitt and his girlfriend, Hunter, Ravi, Melody and later that day Robyn, Billy's sister stopped by. Chad and Raeanne left and returned with Yogurt Mountain for us because their anniversary was that day and ours was the next. They said they wanted to celebrate with us. Blake and Amanda also left and Amanda came back a little later that day.
On Monday Robyn came back to visit before she left to go back home. During the day it was quiet but later after people got off work we had Amanda Derrick come visit again. Becky Thomson and Jennifer Lagrange and her husband, Andy from school stopped by after work. They even brought us Cookout milkshakes. (Our friends must have known we love ice cream.)
On Tuesday we went home around mid day. When we got home my dad and Sonia had did so much work around the house.

We were so excited to have so many people come visit and see our new addition!

Will Couldn't Wait

Our c-section was scheduled for Tuesday, July 12, but Will had plans of his own.

The Friday before our c-section we decided to go out with friends to see Transformers at the movie theaters. So since we were out late on Friday we were planning on sleeping in on Saturday. But that did not happen. At 7:15 am I woke up and ran to the bathroom not knowing that my water had just broke. I then started to have pretty bad back pain that would not stop. I tried laying back down but that didn't work. I tried laying on the couch with a heating pad but that did not work. In fact the pain was getting sharper. I tried to wake Billy up to tell him. I was almost shouting his name when finally he woke up and ask what was up. I told him and asked him what I should do. He texted his sister to see if she had any advice and told me to call my doctor.

I called and left a message with the on-call doctor. He called me back and I told him what was going on. He told me to calmly go to the hospital and get checked out to see if I was possibly in labor. He said this is not an emergency. So I decided to take a quick shower before going. (Something that Billy still teases me about. :) ) We left the house at 7:50 am.

On the ride to the hospital I told Billy I probably should time the pain because they would probably ask me how far apart it was. I looked at the clock when I first started feeling sharper pain (the pain in my back never stopped). The clock said 7:54. So I waited until the next sharp pain and looked at the clock it said 7:55. I knew that this wasn't good and that it was coming really fast. I even asked Billy if he was going just a little over the speed limit. He told me he was trying to be careful. The ride seemed like it took forever. We arrived at the hospital around 8:15.

We had to be put in a waiting room until they could come get us. When they came to get us they took us back to the triage area and starting doing the necessary IV's and such because they knew I was having a c-section. The nurse even checked me to find out how far along I was. After she did this she pulled Billy out of the area and told him that she could feel Will's feet and that things were going to happen a lot faster but they didn't want to alarm me. Around the time she checked me I started to see 6 nurses in and out of my room and then the doctor showed up. A lot was going on and in a very quick pace. All I could do was ask for pain medicine. They kept telling me they were trying but I kept on insisting. I even asked if they just had something I could take orally. Finally they started to wheel me to the operating room. They told Billy to get changed in this room for expecting fathers so he could come in and be in the operating room with Will was born. In a typical c-section the mother is awake and the father is present.

When I got to the operating room, the nurse said that they were now going to put me to sleep. I replied, "Put me to sleep?!" because I knew that this was not how it was suppose to go but at that time I just wanted the pain to stop and if going to sleep meant I wouldn't feel the pain I was ok with that. The nurse then had to go tell Billy that they put me to sleep because they didn't have enough time to wait for the numbing medicine to take affect. The nurse said she would come get him when the baby was out.

Will was born at 8:43 am. So to recap I woke up at 7:15 with pain. We arrived at the hospital at 8:15 and he was born with in a half an hour. It all went so quickly. We didn't even have enough time to let family know.

By the time I came back from recovery which was about a couple of hours, Billy's parents were there along with my sister. I was unable to see and hold Will until about 2 or 3. Billy was able to watch him get his bath and take pictures of all of it. Here are a few pictures he got.
