Another Expensive Purchase

So I had posted last time that we had found a couch and love seat at Big Lots. Well after going and looking at it one last time, we realized that the fabric on the couch looked very cheap. So we decided to look elsewhere for furniture.

Yesterday we looked all over the place. We looked in Furniture Market, Home Comfort Clearance Center, Rooms To Go, and finally Ashley Furniture over near Triangle Town Center. Amanda Ellis had mentioned that maybe we should check out Ashley Furniture, so we did.

We had seen one at Rooms to Go that was in our budget but I just didn't like the color so we went to Ashley Furniture. I found one that I did like and it was very comfortable. It was a little more than the one at Rooms to Go, but it was more comfortable and it was the color I liked. So we talked about it for a while. The only way we could have done it was if we financed it for a year with no interest.

Billy said he didn't see a sign advertising financing so he didn't think they had it. I insisted that we ask someone and find out before we rule it out. So finally Billy said,
OK you ask someone. We looked all over for the woman who met us at the door because we knew we should talk to her first. We couldn't find her so we asked Gregory (some guy that works there...I just remembered his name). Gregory told us they are running a deal that they will pay for the delivery fee and the taxes and they also have financing for a year with no interest.

We had a lot of deciding to do. Billy decided to call his dad to get his advice so we stepped outside and called. Billy's dad said it was a good deal. So we talked about it some more and we decided why not. We could just get the couch and
love seat and finance it for a year. When we came back in we saw the woman who first greeted us. We told her we had talked to Gregory about their financing. She was not happy that we had did that. She said something about how they have this protocol and that she first approached us so therefore we were to talk to her. She was not very nice about it and I feel bad for even saying his name to her. I saw her later talking to him. Sorry Gregory!!

When we talked to her we found out that in order to get the 1 year financing deal you had to spend more than $1,000. The couch and the
love seat were not that much so we either had to buy something else or not get it. They had a deal where you could buy a 5 piece set that included a coffee table and end tables for over $1,000, but I didn't like the tables they grouped with the couch. The sales lady told us we could switch out any other table set for these sets, with the chance that it might be a little more. So we again had to look all over the sales floor.

Finally after the sales lady had given me her suggestions and then I finding one that I liked, we were set to check out. The bill came to more than I would have liked but Billy was good about reassuring me that we didn't just want to settle and we also have set it up in our budget to buy furniture.

We were approved for the financing and our furniture will arrive at our new apartment June 23. I can't wait to see it all together.

Our First Home Together

So this past Saturday we got the keys to our first home together. Billy will move in first and after the wedding (which is in 38 days..YAY!!!), I will move in with him. Let me just say it wasn't what we expected. For some reason I thought when we looked at the model apartment back in April, it looked a lot different than what ours looks like. I also was at the point that we had looked at so many apartments that I didn't really care anymore. It isn't that bad and we are definitely saving money by living here.

Unfortunately a lot of our money we will be saving is going to be spent on furniture. We are in need of a living room set and a dining room table. Yesterday we were able to find a table that we like and it would work for a couple of years at Walmart (my favorite store ever...and I don't care who knows it!!!). We think we have found a sofa and loveseat that we like as well at Big Lots, but we can't figure out how to get it home yet.

Tonight Billy, Kate (our friend from Oklahoma), Billy's mom and I went and purchased the table. The night before Billy and I had found the table but we were afraid it wouldn't fit in any of our cars. So I went in search of something to measure the box with, and I found a ruler from the Office section of Walmart. We measured the box and called up Mrs. Keown to see if we could measure her car or use the Jeep so we could get the table to our house. It got too late and we couldn't find a car that would fit a 3' 6" by 3' 6" by 11" box and Mr. Keown had taken the Jeep on a business trip so we decided to wait.

Today we got the idea to just buy the table and take everything out of the box and put it in the car that way. And it worked. Mrs. Keown brought her car over and we loaded up the pieces in her car and took it over to our new apartment.

Billy and I were too excited to wait to put it together so we went ahead and did it. Billy coached Kate and I on how to put the little washer, then the big washer, and then the bolt on, or something like that. He was a great teacher; we just were poor students. Needless to say, Billy did most of the hard work. Although he was able to use the new drill he got from his parents from our Wedding Shower in South Carolina. I think he was pretty pumped about that.

So now we have our first piece of furniture in our first home together. How exciting!

Pictures are to come of our apartment.
